Definition

Refugee protection can include many specific actions to provide legal and physical protection to people who have fled their home country for fear of persecution (UNHCR USA). In addition to immediate life-saving assistance, refugee protection involves facilitating one of three “durable solutions”—voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement in a third country (UNHCR 2016, pp. 180-181).
